Prof. Dr. Susumu Uchiyama joins Scientific Advisory Board of Coriolis

Prof. Dr. Susumu Uchiyama is a biophysical chemist with over 25 years of experiences. Since 2017, he is a professor for biotechnology at the Osaka University in Japan. His focus is on the study of solution biophysics of proteins, protein complexes and protein-nucleic acids complexes by using a variety of methods including analytical ultracentrifugation, mass spectrometry (especially native MS and HDX-MS) and calorimetry. Prof. Uchiyama was also involved in remodeling analytical instruments, such as laser optics for Beckman Model-E analytical ultracentrifuge and digital data acquisition system for DASM-4 calorimeter. He has also participated in the development of a number of instrument prototypes. In 2005, Prof. Uchiyama stayed for 1 year at Prof. Carol Robinson’s laboratory in Cambridge University, where he focused on native mass spectrometry. He launched the company U-Medico Inc. in 2006 and has been providing analytical services for pharmaceutical companies since 2008. His research interest includes energetic understanding of immune related proteins and formulation development of therapeutic proteins and gene therapy products. Container closure system for biopharmaceuticals with better quality and more safety is also in his research scope. In recent years, Prof. Uchiyama is leading a Japan national project for the development of characterization and quality control of virus vectors for gene therapy. He has published more than 250 peer-reviewed papers and reviews, and edited a book of Analytical Ultracentrifugation published from Springer. He serves on the Editorial Advisory Boards for Journal of Biochemistry and Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

We welcome Prof. Dr. Susumu Uchiyama as a new Scientific Advisory Board Member and are proud to have his outstanding expertise now available during client projects.

Prof. Uchiyama will actively be involved in project discussions and will contribute with his long-year experience to successful project outcomes. His advice will be provided independently from his affiliated university. This ensures the highest level of protection of our clients’ entrusted information. No additional contracts with the university are required to benefit from the scientific advice of Prof. Uchiyama.
